what research can tell us about how meditation works, and its effects on mind and body.

Join Betsy Turner, PhD to discuss the science of meditation. Scientific and medical studies of meditation have demonstrated numerous amazing beneficial effects on mental and physical health. In this talk, we will review some of the findings of these studies, and address the following questions:

  • What is happening in the brain when we meditate?

  • What are some of the benefits observed in meditators?

  • How does meditation heal the mind and body?

There will be time for Q&A at the end.

  • Betsy worked as a teacher and a researcher at a university when she first discovered Vedic Meditation. she loved her job but was often exhausted and filled with anxiety. She felt trapped in repeating thought patterns of fear and regret. She tried to manage my stress. She struggled with understanding: ‘why me’, ‘why this’ and ‘why that’. She was looking for answers.

When she learned Vedic Meditation, things began to change as deep-seated stresses began to unwind. She reacted less and took action more. She was calmer and more poised. It took more to rattle her. Her creativity increased. She surprised herself by meeting difficult interpersonal interactions with grace. She felt like her life had more time in it: more time to laugh and play.
